finally ate K ration - stayed there dug in that night - troubled by snipers - volunteered for small patroll to get sniper. - six of us crawled along ditch & thru beat field - all wet - tank straffed ahead of us - artillery thrown at us - came close - no success art. knocked out anti tank gun & injured crew - robot bomb Sgt. ??Vercy?? to hosp. Bob asst. sqd ldr. patrol - Bob, Petit & myself - reconnoiter area in front of A Co. Uneventful 1st casualty in our Co. sgt. Belfiore. Plat. C P in barn. people evacuated cows left unfed. est. 2-3 mi fr Holland moved out 200 yd. dug in - 2-3 hrs. moved again across open fields thru hedges - finally onto road toward Breda people showed true gladness in seeing troops dug in supporting migs - burning barn caused by hand grenade - rain wet - stood by fire to warm up. heated rations in the hot ashes in the morning marched thru town - waited finally dug in on outskirts. mail - 14 letters fr. home. hot meal - drew ammo moved out about 10 o'clock - crossed bridges that were blown up - thru
