& other little improvements that
add to its appearance
May 5 Wandered about Riesa. Russian
officer visited us in house
I had meat and cheese 1899 Cognac
drank a toast to Russians & Americans
Russians drank all in one swallow
so Norm & I had to do same.
We felt happy after we left there
- had apple cider in wrecked inn
Innkeeper came out of back room
& we gave him extent of our foreign
lingo "Nicht farshtien" etc.
When Norm mentioned Americans
he said in good English - "well
why didn't you say so in the first
place"
Russians feeding us three
good meals a day - porridge -
& stews - all you want.
Russian hospitality is
